Please feel free to come along to our Club, you will be made very welcome.
We meet on the 4th Monday of each month (except July and December when we are closed) at the Murrayfield Hotel, 18 Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh.
You can telephone our House & Reception Convener Polly Ridge on 0131 331 1012 and let her know you are coming along or telephone the Murrayfield Hotel on 0131 334 1844.
We have various speakers throughout the year, all very interesting.
We fund-raise for charity by having a fashion show or other event usually in May each year (this is our biggest fund-raiser). We also hold various other events during the year and encourage members of the public to join in with us to raise funds for charity.

The President for the year chooses her charity/charities and it proceeds from there. President Lesley’s Charity this year is Down’s Syndrome Scotland. We also raise money for various overseas charities.

Planned events for this year so far are: Charter Dinner on 9th November 2011; 19th November 2011, Coffee morning to be held in Thomas Chalmers Centre, Kirkliston, tickets £3 adults, £1 children - all welcome (10a.m.-12noon); Quiz night 16th February 2012 to be held in Corstorphine Bowling Club - 7 for 7.30p.m.; Floral Evening to be held in Carricknowe Bowling Club 7.30p.m.; Fashion Show St. Ninian’s Church Hall, Corstorphine Wednesday 11th April 2012 (details to follow) and a possible Sponsored Walk on 24th March 2012.

About the area

From a sleepy suburb of Edinburgh at the end of a long tram car ride to an ever growing community, Corstorphine has grown over the years stretching from the beautiful stone built St. Annes Church to the Stakis Casino at the Maybury traffic lights.

Perhaps the main attraction today is the Gyle Shopping Centre with Marks & Spencers attracting visitors from miles around. Like all similar developments the other outlets are the usual High Street multiples. Our main shopping area St. Johns Road has suffered with too many charity shops. The Harp Hotel has become a Toby and all the old individual shops have disappeared. The street still presents an attractive picture with St. Ninian's Church its main point of interest. The heart of old Corstorphine is the Parish Church and Dower House both giving an insight into the past. The Church with its Leper window and lamp, lighting travellers over the old Nor Loch. The Dower House is much used by the local community hosting group meetings and displaying many archives from the past. One famous landmark, our Sycamore tree could be aided no more and crashed to the ground in recent winter’s storms. Hopefully its wood will be made into souvenirs. Travel further into Dovecot Rd and you will find the Dovecot Tapestries, weaving commissions ordered from all over the country.

Sport flourishes here with many golf courses, tennis clubs bowling clubs and the renowned S.R.U. Headquarters and Stadium at Murrayfield.  Corstorphine may be part of the town but we are in the heart of the country and many enjoyable walks are on the doorstep with Corstorphine Woods, Cammo Park and Cramond foreshore in the area. Do not forget the walk round Corstorphine Zoo which ranges up and down Corstorphine Hill and houses a great collection of animals.

Travel links are easy with bus and rail providing services into and out of Edinburgh (there is also a new Tram System being built). Edinburgh Airport is just past Gogar Roundabout, linking us to the World, and the City By-Pass provides access to nearer destinations. Do come to visit. You will be assured of a warm welcome from the Corstorphine Club at its meeting place in the Murrayfield Hotel on the 4th Monday of every month at 6.15 p.m. (except in the months of July and December)
